Oxbridge Academy Short Course: Municipal Financial Management

The financial management of municipalities forms a critical part of the overall management of a municipality. It is therefore important that not only the financial practitioners of a municipality must have a thorough understanding of it, but also the line-managers that are responsible for the management of departments and other service delivery units. From a line-managers perspective it is necessary to clarify the concept ‘municipal financial management’ and to obtain a broad understanding of the legislative and regulatory framework that governs it in South Africa. As far as the legislative and regulatory framework is concerned, it is important to take note from the outset that compliance with it by the municipality is of utmost importance.
