Occupational Certificate: Retail Supervisor
The Occupational Certificate: Retail Supervisor aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate as retail supervisors. This qualification is ideal for individuals already employed in the wholesale and retail industry who aspire to advance their careers.
Retail supervisors play a crucial role in overseeing, coordinating, and controlling the work performance of a team within a specific area of a wholesale and retail outlet. They significantly impact the organisation’s ability to deliver excellent customer service and maintain productive teams that contribute to the organisation’s success through supervision and minimising losses.
As a retail supervisor, you will operate in various contexts and need supervisory skills and job-specific expertise. The retail industry recognises the role of a retail supervisor as a scarce skill, highlighting the importance of mastering critical retail supervision characteristics.
Upon completing this course, you will be capable of:
- Supervising retail and wholesale staff.
- Managing the implementation and maintenance of retail or wholesale operations.
- Analysing the root causes of customer complaints and resolving them in a manner that fosters customer loyalty.

Knowledge Modules:
- Concepts and principles of supervising wholesale or retail staff
- Concepts and principles of monitoring and improving performance
- Concepts and principles for the implementation and maintenance of retail or wholesale operations
- Concepts and principles of enhancing customer service
Practical Skill Modules:
- Supervise retail or wholesale staff
- Monitor and control the work performance of a team
- Supervise operations
- Supervise service to internal and external retail and wholesale customers
- Resolve queries and complaints from internal and external retail and wholesale customers
Work Experience Modules:
- Processes and procedures for supervising wholesale or retail staff
Students are required to complete the following:
- 4 theoretical assignments
- 5 practical assignments
- 4 workplace assignments
The W&RSETA is the assessment partner and will conduct the external exams. In order to qualify for the external summative assessment, learners must have a copy of a completed and signed Statement of Work Experience as well as proof of successful completion of the Knowledge, Practical, and Workplace Modules.
Upon completion of this course, students will be awarded an Occupational Certificate: Retail Supervisor from the QCTO.
