Will You Enjoy Working in Supply Chain and Logistics?

If you’re considering this career path, then you should be aware of some of the key skills you’ll be required to use in day-to-day work in the field. You should also take into account some of your personality traits and your general interests.

Here are some of the skills that you’ll need, with some examples of when you might need to use them:

  • Time management

Most of what happens in supply chain and logistics is ruled by the clock. You may, for example, need to have a shipment ready at a specific time, or deliver goods to expectant customers who are relying on you. In this fast-paced world, effective time management is of the utmost importance!

  • Working under pressure

You’ll be under pressure to carry out your role effectively and efficiently. Managers and customers alike will be relying on you to pack, sort or deliver goods so that tasks can be accomplished. You need to stay clear and focused under the pressure, as small mistakes can be very costly! You don’t want to be the one who was responsible for mishaps such as late deliveries, breakages or incorrect shipments.

  • Teamwork and communication

Teamwork is crucial to the proper functioning of any task. You need to be able to communicate effectively with managers, colleagues and clients. If you aren’t on the same page as the rest of your team, or if there is miscommunication, then the entire process can fall apart.

  • Problem-solving

You’ll likely encounter some problems during your work. Maybe one of your trucks breaks down on the way to its destination, or you have to deal with an angry customer who received the wrong goods. You need to have the ability to think on your feet and find solutions to these issues.

  • Adaptability

As with many other jobs, you’ll need to be able to adapt to changes happening in the industry and within your company. You may need to learn how to use new technology, or adapt to changes in the work process.

What other personality traits or interests will help you to succeed?

If some of the following personality traits or interests apply to you, then you’ll probably enjoy a career in supply chain and logistics:

  • You enjoy working with people.
  • You like new challenges.
  • You’re energetic and active.
