This year, Oxbridge Academy is focusing on the theme of dreaming big! It’s important to remember that dreams aren’t achieved in one big leap – they are usually reached by taking a series of small steps that eventually lead you to your end goal. We are excited to introduce you to our new theme by taking you through this step-by-step guide to success!
Start small; go big!
Some of the world’s most successful people started from humble beginnings. Oprah Winfrey, for example, grew up living in poverty with her grandmother. However, following her passion saw her becoming one of the highest paid television personalities in history. She gradually built her way up, from acting in school plays, to reading the news on a local community station and, eventually, hosting the famous talk show that would make her a multi-billionaire.
Now, let’s say your passion is computing and networking. You can lay the foundations for a successful IT business by starting with something as small as one computer. Or are you dreaming of starting something new? Kick-start your journey to a career you’re passionate about by choosing the right college course. Take that small first step, whether it be creating the perfect CV, or volunteering at a company you want to work for. It’s the best way to start making your dreams a reality!
Smart steps towards success
Although they may be small, the steps that you take towards reaching your dreams should be smart and well thought-out. Here’s a guide to start taking the right steps:
- Start with a passion
Think about something you’re passionate about or really want to achieve. You might, for example, want to find a career in the tourism industry, or start your own electrical services business. All you need is a desire to reach to your dreams; you don’t necessarily have to know exactly how you are going to get there yet! - Take one smart step as soon as possible
The longer you put off taking the first step towards reaching your dreams, the less likely it becomes that you will actually take that step. You may start to convince yourself that your dreams are unrealistic and that you’ll never be able to get there. The key is to act quickly, using any advantage you may have. You may, for example, already know someone working in the tourism industry. Take the step of contacting them and finding out how they started their career, or ask them whether you can job shadow for a day. - Get the support of friends and family
Reaching your dreams will be a whole lot easier with the support of the people closest to you. Share your goals and ideas with your friends and family. They can offer you valuable advice and guidance and may even be able to connect you with contacts or opportunities that can take you one step closer to your goals. - Learn from each step you take
Each step you take will teach you something. Sometimes a step you take won’t work out, or you’ll realise that you may have gone in the wrong direction. This gives you valuable insight and will guide you towards taking a different step that will take you closer to your goals. - Keep building
One you’ve taken your first few steps, you’ll feel more confident about taking the next ones. Reaching your dreams can be compared to building a house: keep laying one brick at a time, and you’ll eventually have a completed structure!
