For many of us, travelling to and from work takes up a large portion of the day. Some of us have to leave home by 6am just to make it to work by 8am.

Luckily, if you use public transport to get to work, there are a number of things you can do to make your daily commute more enjoyable — and productive:

Create a to-do list for the day ahead:

Take some time to think of all the things you need to do, and then make a list of your top priorities for the day. This way, you will arrive at work ready and prepared to tackle your first tasks.

Learn a new language

Learning a new language is never a waste of time or energy. There are many mobile applications that you can use to develop your language skills on the go: Duolingo, for example, is a fantastic (and free) app that makes it fun to learn a new language.

De-clutter your inbox

It’s a refreshing feeling to arrive at work with a clean inbox. It’s therefore a good idea to spend some of your travelling time filtering through your e-mails before you get to work.

Get your social media fix for the day

By browsing through your social media accounts on your way to work, you can catch up with all the latest news before the work day starts — instead of doing it during working hours, when you’re supposed to be working.

Set a weekly goal

Setting goals will help to keep you motivated. Use the time that you spend on the bus, train, or taxi to figure out what your goals are, and how you are going to achieve them.

Bonus Tip: If you’re a distance learning student, you can use your travelling time to read through your study material, make summaries, or work on your assignments.
