We all have days where we’re tired and anxious about exams, personal obligations, and deadlines at work, and it doesn’t feel like we have time for anything else. We feel trapped and frustrated and don’t know how to get out of the rut, so we go with the motions – living life feeling overwhelmed and stuck.
As the saying goes, “Life starts at the end of your comfort zone”. Don’t just go through the motions. Here are 4 ways to get unstuck!
1 – Learn some new skills
There is no better time to learn new skills than when you are feeling stuck. Not only will this help you grow, but it will also give you new perspective. Whether it’s taking a short online class on a topic of interest to you, or enrolling for a new course in a new field, you will have the necessary push you need to focus your mind on something other than your frustration at being stuck. By doing new things, you might meet like-minded people with similar interests, or you might discover a new passion.
2 – Strike up a conversation with someone you don’t know
How many people do you “meet” on a daily basis, but because they’re a stranger, you keep your distance and avoid eye contact? Next time, try striking up a conversation with someone – you’ll be surprised at what you might learn. And remember – a smile goes a long way.
3 – Change your routine
In the midst of a chaotic lifestyle, we often rely on routines. This helps to minimise constant decision-making on small things. However, a routine can sometimes be confining. Try taking a new route to work tomorrow. You might discover some interesting places, or get some inspiration from the new surroundings. This will also help to relax your mind, while boosting your creativity.
4 – Try looking at things from a different perspective
Often, when it feels like we’re just going through the motions, our negative mindsets influence every aspect of our lives. It might feel like you’re never going to cram all your study material into your head before your next exam, or that you’re going to fail the year. You need a break! Take a walk and de-stress. Then go back and try a different technique.
