About
With a passion for education, Elbie has developed a successful career focused on both teaching and leadership in the academic field. Starting her journey of work during her high school years with part-time work during weekends to learn about business. She quickly discovered her interest and drive to work hard. After matriculating, she pursued a BCom degree and began teaching accounting at the high school level. She furthered her expertise by obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education through UNISA, complemented by various professional development courses, including management training through the University of Pretoria.
After a year of teaching at the high school level, Elbie took a permanent position at TVET Colleges from 1987 to 2006, where she taught accounting, office practice, and computer practice. She steadily advanced through the ranks, becoming a Senior Lecturer, Subject Head, Faculty Head, and ultimately Head of Administration.
In 2007, she was appointed Vice Principal at Sol-Tech, later becoming Principal, before moving to the Western Cape in 2011 to become Principal at Oxbridge Academy. Throughout her career, Elbie has built a reputation as a results-driven leader who values inclusivity and collaboration. Her management style is described as “hard on the outcomes, soft on the people”—always encouraging input from her team while holding them accountable for their roles and responsibilities.
Her dedication to personal and professional growth led her to participate in international study tours, including a business-focused tour to Singapore and an artisan training visit to the UK as part of the Services SETA group. These experiences expanded her global perspective on education and its impact.
A true advocate for team collaboration and diverse perspectives, Elbie is in her element when she can guide and mentor individuals toward reaching their full potential. Known for her work ethic, she expects nothing less from those working alongside her. Her commitment to making a positive impact on the future of her students and colleagues remains the cornerstone of her leadership philosophy.
